Applications are now being accepted for Round 2 of the Peer Workforce Initiative (PWI) grant program.
This program is an investment in behavioral health peer-run programs’ capacity and infrastructure to “set the table” for the future Medi-Cal peer support services benefit. Round 2 grant funding is available to behavioral health peer-run nonprofit (501(c)(3)) organizations providing peer services for mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) recovery supports and behavioral health services. Applicants with fewer than 50 employees may receive up to $375,000 and those with more may receive up to $500,000 to prepare to bill Medi-Cal for peer services and cover costs related to staffing, supplies, limited capital improvements, workforce development, and other start-up and specified costs.
PWI has a special interest in ensuring high-quality services are available in underserved and high-need communities statewide, including programs that offer bilingual and cultural expertise and those in rural settings.
The PWI grant program is part of the BHWD efforts of the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS).
